World Travel Market London

Australia is ‘banning’ its citizens from travel into 2021. The borders are closed, apart from a possible ‘bubble’ agreement to come with New Zealand, and so Tourism Australia is busy promoting domestic travel.

So has Visit Britain, which predicts that inbound visitor numbers won’t rebound until 2025. But exploring your own backyard is proving popular and possibly transformative. In Rwanda, the national parks have slashed fees for locals to see gorillas.

Andrew Gatera, a local ground handler, says: “In a positive way, we have learned the domestic market is as important as the international one. When developed in a meaningful way, domestic tourism can sustainably complement international tourism with year-round tourism economic growth and development.”
